This or That? | What to wear to your photo session?!?!

Ok .... I booked my session.....Now what am I going to wear!?!?!?
Sometimes this question can be overwhelming! So I invite you to sit back and take a deep breath. I want to make sure all my clients know,  I am here to help! Call me, let's brain storm! I would be honored to be a listening ear, and as an experienced photographer, I would be happy to give you some input on what those colors or what that style will look like on camera.

Here are 5 great ways to help you choose just the right outfit!

  1. Look around your house. When getting your portraits taken you want to think about the end product. Where are you going to hang these portraits of your beautiful family? Look around your living room, bedroom, kid's room, or hallway. What color scheme are you using to decorate those rooms?
For example, when taking our summer beach portraits below, I wanted to incorporate some of the blue to match my living room wall because it knew it would tie it all together like a beautiful package when I hung that portrait in my entry way. Can you find the splash of blue I added?

  2. Start by looking in your closet. You bought those clothes in the first place because you like them. The clothes in your closet represent who you are, what you have done, and memories you have made. Use layers to add a little different look to each photography set as well. You will be amazed at what adding or taking off a scarf will do.

  3. Coordinate, but don't worry about being too Matchy, Matchy! I think it is often wise to pick maybe 2-3 colors, and weave those colors through all your outfits. This can get a lot of fun with a large family(remember those layers really come in handy for this). Some may even want to choose a certain style instead. Urban, country, vintage, or classy are great ways to set up an overall mood for your session, and don't forget to communicate this to me(your photographer) during the planning of your session so we can take this into consideration when choosing your location for the session.

  4. Be You and Be comfortable. You don't want to clothes to be too big or too small. Just like in Goldielocks and the Three Bears, it needs to be JUST RIGHT. :) You want to be comfortable enough to move around, sit on the ground, or to wrap your arms around someone during the portraits. This will help provide a lot more variety during your session, and if you aren't worried about the "what if's," then your smile will be more genuine....and that will make every portrait prettier!

  5. And Finally, take the season in consideration.  For Spring: blues, pinks, yellows work great!  In Summer: red, Teal, and bright colors really pop! During Fall, burnt orange and navy blue look really classy, and for Winter rich colors, like royal blue or dark red or purple are great colors to get you started.
The goal here is to contrast from your background so you can easily standout from your background. Wearing green in a grassy field in the middle of summer might not work as well as wearing a bright blue color.
