WHEN AND HOW DID SOMETHING BLUE EVENTS BEGIN?
|
My husband, Sam, and I were on a quick overnight trip and we were talking about how I could use my gifts to best serve the Lord and others. He asked me, "If you could do anything and get paid for it...what would you do?" My immediate response was "I would mentor younger women." As we continued to talk, I kept saying how much I loved to plan and organize things for people.

As we mulled over such conversation, I realized that my love for encouraging and helping other women teemed with my love for all things organization would be perfect in the field of event and wedding planning.Once that idea came into our minds, we never looked back! It is the perfect fit!

HOW DID YOU GET TO BE SO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO?
|
I truly love my job! Being able to walk alongside someone as they plan a meaningful event is such a privilege. I am able to share moments with families that I treasure. There is no better feeling for me than to know that I am doing everything I can to ensure a client that their planning time will be full of excitement rather than stress. Families often endure great strain and frustration during engagements, in particular, and it is so nice to know that I can alleviate much of that stress by doing the detailed work in order to bring peace and cohesion. It really is a great gift for me to know that I am serving families well during such special seasons of life.

WHY CHOOSE YOU OVER THOSE "OTHER GUYS"?
|
There are many incredible wedding planners in the Memphis area and every one of them has their niche. I would say that mine is that I am able to tailor my services toward the needs of every bride and every budget. For example, I was talking with one of my brides who shared that she would be having mini pies at her rustic outdoor reception rather than a traditional wedding cake. (What a fun idea!) She asked me if I would be willing to help arrange the pie table before the reception. Of course, I said "Yes!" She was relieved and surprised at my response. She had spoken to a few other planners who said they only would do the particular items on their contractual agreement, and "setting up pies" was not one of them. I was sorry that she had already had a negative experience with another planner, but was really thankful that I was going to be able to suit her specific needs. All of this to say, when you hire Something Blue Events, you are able to get our time and energy. and put it to use toward your specified needs. If that means cutting the cake, setting up chairs or fastening boutonnieres, I am happy to serve you as needed. I want to do all of the "little things" that the host or mother-of-the-bride usually end up doing in order to allow them to be fully present and enjoy the day, as well. It's like a I am a member of your family for the day of your event! |

WHEN PEOPLE HEAR THE NAME, SOMETHING BLUE EVENTS, WHAT DO YOU WANT THEM TO THINK OF?
|
I would love for them to think of me as a trusted friend who is quick to serve and help iron out any conflicts or issues and bring peace. I want my clients to feel as though their ideas are met with encouragement and wisdom that comes with my experience. If a client's budget isn't as big as their dream event might require, I am all about suggesting DIY projects to create just the feel for which they are hoping. It's a great feeling to see a client's vision become a reality right before my eyes, no matter what budget they might have

WHAT ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY HAS THROWN YOU A CURVE BALL?
|
|
The very first wedding I was helping to plan was called off just weeks before the wedding date. I was quick to support the bride in her decision as the marriage is far more important than the wedding day! However, as with any cancelled wedding, there were a lot of things that we needed to go back and make right. That was a new experience for me, but it was such a sweet time for me to encourage and support my client, turned friend, during a difficult time in her life.
As a wild side note, the week of this intended wedding, the reception venue burned down!!! How's that for confirmation that the wedding shouldn't have happened on that day? I am happy to report that this bride and groom are continuing to date and are very much in love....just finding the timing for their union that works for them.

HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR WORK DAY FUN?
|
If you didn't already pick up on the fact that my nerdy side shines through my organizational fetish, here goes: I love going over the detailed notes that I have taken for each event on which I am working. It is actually fun for me to sink into the details and make sure that my clients are aware of the deadlines that are coming up, so that they will begin thinking toward them. Putting new labels in my wedding planning binder while I have a yummy candle lit is also really fun for me. (Again...nerd alert!)

IF YOU COULD BE A SUPER HERO, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
|
With a 5 year old boy in our home, I am well acquainted with Super Heroes! I would be Super Woman! I want to be able to help my clients, turned friends, in every way I can along the way to their event. I also want them to know that I have all of the details handled on their special day so they can sit back, relax and enjoy!

Hi there. to become a wedding/event planner requires lots of work and a considerable amount of money.
Beautiful article with equally beautiful images. I just have to say I wished Lauren were still in Birmingham, but then Something Blue Events may not have been. Memphis is blessed to have you, Lauren Kelly...and, from what I see here, you too, Callie!
Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far (state). Pr. 25:25 I love hearing how God us using your servant's heart & creative talents to bless others on such a monumental day!
