WHEN AND HOW DID VOLNER FAMILY DENTAL BEGIN?
My senior year of high school I had no idea what I wanted to do. I decided to ask my guidance counselor what a good job 10 years from now would be? After a few days she recommended a dentist because she said lots of dentists will be retiring. A week later I asked my grandfather what a good job would be and he said a dentist. I prayed about it and felt like God wanted me to do this.

Right after school I worked with a pediatric dentist in Jackson TN. In May of 2013 I finally had the opportunity to fulfill a goal I set when I started dental school. I purchased my first dental practice from an older dentist who was retiring. I knew this is what God wanted me to do and it was best for my family and me. The practice is on highway 64 in Bartlett, which is still close to friends and family. I work four days a week and the occasional Friday doing community services. I love my job and honestly couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else!

HOW DID YOU GET TO BE SO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO?
I would say experience and mistakes are the best teacher. I try to read at least one book a month on leadership, setting goals, or becoming more efficient in life. Also, working with older mentors that have been doing this their whole lives has helped me in my journey. I have to give props to The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry for teaching me the basics though. |
WHY CHOOSE YOU OVER THOSE "OTHER GUYS"?
I would say from the moment you walk in to the office to the time you leave, my team is the best in town. You will be treated like family and get quality dentistry. I use local labs that use the highest quality materials. We are continually taking continuing education courses and learning about the newest technology dentistry has to offer. I think everybody is looking for a dentist who is honest and trustworthy. That is my goal and I like patients who value their teeth and are looking for a relationship rather than just a chart number. |
WHEN PEOPLE HEAR THE NAME, VOLNER FAMILY DENTAL, WHAT DO YOU WANT THEM TO THINK OF?
A lot of people don’t know this but I read a statistic that said 9 out of 10 people said the first thing they notice about a person is their smile. We want our office to be the exception in town. The one about which our patients can confidently say…”I belong there, and I will for the rest of my life.” I want people to know I don’t sell them what I think they need but I give them what they want. I want them to feel good about their smile and add confidence to their life.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY HAS THROWN YOU A CURVE BALL?
Well when I bought the practice the transition from the old doctor to the new doctor was kind of a bumpy ride because he had been here for 30+ years and it is hard for people to accept change. However, I feel it has made me a stronger person and grew my relationship with the Lord.
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR WORK DAY FUN?
Try to not sweat the small stuff. This is definitely a struggle for my line of profession just because by nature I am a little OCD about my work. I just try to have goals and reward my team as much as possible and laugh whenever I can. We do role playing during our monthly meetings which can become quite comical at times.

IF YOU COULD BE A SUPER HERO, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
I would probably be the green lantern. It would save me a lot of money on instruments because I could just think of the object I needed and use it. He can fly, shoot lasers (also useful dental tool), and speak any language. Basically he’s the man. Ha
